What can you do when a loved one is affected by mental illness?

Educating yourself and being there for the person—by listening to the person and sharing your concerns—are the greatest things you can do. Know that you are not alone in struggling with the issues that come with having a loved one affected by mental illness. Know also that becoming more informed and educated about mental illness and what you can do does not only help the person affected by mental illness, it also helps you.
