How can I tell if I or someone I know has a mental illness?

The only person who can actually diagnose a person as having a mental illness is a mental health professional. If you think you or someone you know might be affected by mental illness, it might be helpful to look at some more information on signs and symptoms of various mental illnesses, and to see a mental health professional as soon as possible. The rule of thumb is that if you are concerned, it is helpful to talk to someone about that concern and learn more.
