Suicide

If you feel you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please call 911. If you are in Chicago, you can ask for a CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) officer to receive help from an officer trained to assist in mental illness crises.

Call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) if you or someone you know is contemplating suicide.

These numbers will route you to your local certified crisis center. You can call these numbers for yourself, or you can call if you are worried that someone you know is thinking about suicide or is in crisis.

“What will happen when I call?”

If you are not experiencing a crisis, but you have been feeling suicidal or depressed, your campus counseling center may be able to help you (For campus counseling center listings, please search by campus). If you prefer, you could also go to a local mental health clinic or visit a psychiatrist for help. If you need help finding services, please call NAMI of Greater Chicago at (312) 563-0445 10AM-5PM, Monday through Friday.
